Additional Information Purpose

Develops written, multimedia and visual content for Cockrell School of Engineering social media channels, institutional websites and other digital channels, ensuring content is coordinated, diversified, relevant and effective in communicating the school's mission and communications and marketing objectives.

Essential Functions

Conceptualize, create and distribute engaging digital content - from website stories showcasing student initiatives to social media campaigns promoting the impact of philanthropy - as a key member of the Cockrell School communications and marketing team. Manage, monitor and grow the school's official social media channels, keeping them relevant and up to date, continually monitoring social media trends and looking for ways to enhance and expand the school's digital reach. Collect data and analyze metrics on social media and other digital channels to inform strategic direction and make conclusions about content performance. Create and utilize photography, video and dynamic digital storytelling to continually enhance school communications channels. Assist with the planning and development of digital communications projects, including microsites, email marketing campaigns and newsletters. Work with Cockrell School's assistant director of communications and marketing and other communications colleagues to plan, develop and publish content and stories of various lengths and styles. Keep website relevant and up to date. Provide assistance and guidance to Cockrell School staff, faculty and student groups in creating and formatting content for social media and websites, particularly in the context of the school's website content management system. Produce visual assets (e.g., photographs, video content, etc.) for the promotion of strategic school priorities.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in communications, marketing, public relations and/or journalism. One or more years of experience managing, writing and/or creating content for social media channels and websites. Ability to use a full-range of storytelling methods. Proficiency in social media platforms, web content management systems, email marketing platforms, Microsoft Office and other digital communications tools. Proven ability to write clear, concise and compelling content. Basic experience with Adobe Creative Suite and general design principles, HTML coding and photo and video editing software. Proven ability to multi-task and keep projects well organized Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism and/or marketing. Two or more years of experience managing, creating and publishing content for social media channels and websites. Experience managing a website. Ability to use a full-range of storytelling methods, i.e., written text, videos and other visual content. Successful experience using social media as an element of message delivery and community engagement. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a professional team, fulfilling obligations to other team members, being positive and supportive of others, and complying with policies, procedures and goals of the organization. Ability to teach content providers the basic principles of content production and best practices.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
