The start date for this position is August 2017. Position will work from the Lake Austin Center (LAC) building at 3001 Lake Austin Boulevard, Austin, TX.

Additional Information Purpose

To perform art evaluations and assist the department in all aspects of the print production process. We are a publisher specializing in art and photography books and scholarly monographs. We publish approximately 100 books annually.

Essential Functions

Art Evaluations: Evaluate the quality and usability of the majority of art appearing in the books we publish. Collaborate with editors and authors and advise them on how to provide replacement, corrected, and missing art. Log and organize images in a file maker database. Rename all image files using UT Press naming conventions, make simple adjustments and corrections to art, streamline the art evaluation procedures, educate staff on the art database, and other issues pertaining to art programs. Assist the department in new book and reprint coordination, generate and update schedules in a FileMaker database, create estimates, budgets, cast-offs, send books out for typesetting, and communicate with outside vendors as needed. Typesetting: Use InDesign to input page corrections to front list books for designers, typeset new material for revised or updated editions, and make corrections for reprints. Process invoices, create purchase orders, and final production plans. Pack, ship, train and supervise student workers as needed.

Marginal/Incidental functions

General office tasks as they arise. Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, Word, and Excel. An excellent eye for detail and commitment to producing the highest quality books. Highly organized with the ability to work on multiple on-going projects. Self-motivated and proactive with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a group. Ability to lift a heavy carton of books. Candidates will be asked to perform a software test in InDesign and Photoshop during the course of the interview. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with FileMaker Pro and database management. Three or more years of publishing or related field of experience. An interest in exploring, developing, and optimizing work-flows, as well as adapting to new technologies and workflows as necessary.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
