Social Media Editor/Producer

This is not just another content conveyor belt position where success is measured by how many Facebook and Twitter posts you can crank out per hour. We are looking for highly creative writer/producers adept at scanning the web for trending topics and unusual stories, cross-pollinating them with additional information and retelling them with the kind of unique spin that makes for must-share posts. New hires will join a small team of writers, graphic designers and video producers responsible for populating Yahoo's primary social channels with highly creative, native content.
The right person for this role has an innate feel for what interests a mass audience and the ability to quickly brainstorm engaging ways to package and present the material. Excellent writing skills are a must. We are looking for pros that can turn out copyedit clean posts, which inform, entertain and encourage interaction. While expertise in a specific content vertical is a plus, the most successful applicants will be those who feel comfortable writing across a broad range of topics.

Responsibilities:

-Scan the Internet each morning for trending topics, news and data that can serve as the starting point for original new social posts.
-Pitch ideas in daily morning group brainstorm and assignment meeting
-Research/write/publish posts...often working with graphic designers and video producers on accompanying visuals
-Work with Yahoo channels on social extensions for original network stories
-Help disseminate best practices for social posting throughout the Yahoo media organization

Qualifications:

-2-7 years experience writing and publishing consumer-facing content to social platforms (salary commensurate w/experience)
-Excellent post writing abilities (display and body copy)
-Strong idea generation skills
-Adept at finding information quickly on the Internet
-Working understanding of social metrics and content-surfacing algorithms of the major social platforms
-Video and photo editing software skills a plus, but not required
